When editing we imported two production companies at the beginning. The first one was a professional production company and the second was one our own.
We decided to use the Blumhouse Production Company logo as this was one of the production companies that we had researched previously. After watching the three production companies we had researched we felt that the Blumhouse Productions logo fitted with our genre as it was eerie and tense and wasn't too long.
We then added in one of our own production companies. Again, we watched through all three of our own production companies that we had created ourselves and chose one that was high quality and fitted with the name of our production company 'Mirror Productions'. We then added it in after our chosen professional production company so that it was played before our film opening began.
We had to include two production companies at the beginning of our film opening; these included one professional and one of our own.
The first one we added into our footage was the professional production company 'BlumHouse Productions'. We chose this because it fits well with our horror film, was one previously researched and was also a suitable time length. We downloaded and saved it from YouTube, so we were then able to insert into FinalClip Pro along with the rest of our footage.
We then inserted Ashleigh's own production company Because we came to an agreement that it was the best design and most effective. Our own production company is named 'Mirror Productions':
When we had all of our footage edited and in the right order we needed to decide which professional production company we were going to use before our own production company. Before deciding this we had all done research on production companies so we had three to chose from that were related to the genre of our film opening. The way in which we went about deciding on which one would work and fit best was by looking back through the blogs and research we had done on production companies before and then re watching each of them
The production company that we decided on was Blumhouse and this was the one that I had previously researched prior to filming . We decided upon this one because it fits well with Ashleigh's own production company that we chose to use and it works well with the genre of our film opening.
Here is the production company in our footage:
After deciding upon the professional production company we were going to use we then as a group had to decide out of our own made production companies which one we were going to use. We followed the same procedure and looked back over the blogs and re watched each one. Once we had done this as a group we decided that we were going to use Ashleigh's this is because it showed the genre of our film opening effectively and was the one within the group that was of a high standard for our film opening.
This is the own made production company:
As you can see from the screenshot above of the own made production company the name is also effective as it works well with the backing of the production company and helps to show the genre.
Professional Production Company: Ghost House Pictures
Here is the Production Company's Logo:
Ghost House Pictures was first established in 2002 by Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, who aimed to produce high concept horror films. The company has released many well known horror films such as
-The Possession (2012)
-Poltergeist (2015)
-The Grudge (2004)
-30 Days of Night (2007)
-Evil Dead (2013)
-Drag Me To Hell (2009)
-The Messengers (2007)
I think that the company's logo is very effective as the skull emerges from the dark and black background and zooms in as the company name 'Ghost House Pictures' appears around it. The font used makes the writing look as though it is dripping something, possibly blood suggesting that the film will be scary and gory. The editing of the logo is very choppy and the skull is made to look like it is vibrating and is also made to look like there is a glitch in the logo as it flickers and cracks and turns into a variety of colours. I really like how the skull is made to move, shake and flicker as if there is a problem with the logo as it creates a sense of worry in the viewer as it is unusual and suggests that something may be wrong indicating that this may be the same in the film that follows. I also think that the sound effects are effective as when the logo glitches a crackling and electronic sound is played to further indicate that something is wrong and not normal.
School made Production Company:
This is the school made production company logo that I have chosen to analyse:
I think that this production company title is effective as I really like how the background moves and creates what looks like an optical illusion as it adds movement and colour to the Company Logo and makes it more memorable. I think that the use of the colour blue was successful as it was bright but also made the logo feel cold and indicated that the film to follow could be chilling or scary. I also like how the title 'Blue Montage' is already there written in a bold silver font when the logo begins to play and then the word 'Entertainment' slowly appears in a different font in white underneath as it makes it more interesting. I also think its effective when the word 'Entertainment' disappears again as does the blue background leaving it with just the text 'Blue Montage' as it added simplicity to the logo after the previous moving background.
I think that this Production Company Logo was made by filming lights being shone on a reflective, coloured object and moved around to create reflections and shapes to create the blue moving background which was placed into an editing software to make the colours more contrasting and easier too see. I think a reflective object was used and had light shone onto it to create the moving and uneven effect displayed in the film. I then think that the text was added when editing as were the special effects and movements that happens to the text.
As a group we decided on the name 'Mirror Productions' for our company as it didn't specify any specific genre and enabled us to be more creative with our company logos. Using this name I decided that it would be a good idea to use a mirror in my Production Company Title as it would be effective and suitable along with the name.
I began by collecting all the materials I would be needing in my opening titles. This included a camera, tripod, mirror, hammer and some bin bags.
I then set up all the materials by laying the mirror on the two bin bags outside so that I could catch as much of the glass as possible. I also set up the camera on the tripod and angled it so that the mirror was focused on and there were no distracting objects in the surrounding frame.
I then set the camera to the correct settings and ensured that the mirror was focused on. I also placed the hammer on the mirror to ensure it was in focus and that I would hit the mirror in the correct place when filming. I then proceeded to start filming on the camera and hitting the mirror with force to ensure it smashed completely.
Editing:
I then edited my film. I began by importing the video and cutting it to the desired length so that it wasn't too long. Once I had done this I cut the film into sections and removed the sound where it wasn't needed, this enabled me to remove any background noise except the noise of the smashing glass. I then put the video into slow motion to make the glass smashing more dramatic and easier to see as well as to make the video slightly longer and it was very short. Finally, I added the text 'Mirror Productions' in a bold white font with a black outline to make it stand out and easier to see on top of the mirror in the background.

Evaluation:
I think that the editing of my Production Company opening was successful as I was able to make the smashing of the mirror dramatic by slowing it down and making the sound louder. I also think that my opening was successful as the use of the mirror related well to the name we came up with as a group and made it more effective as a whole.
However, I would improve my opening by using a different background as I feel that the black bin bags looked boring and I could've smashed the mirror on a more effective background such as an old floor such as cracked tiles or rubble.
As our next practical task, we had to design our own
production company name and its opening introduction. We decided to name ours
‘Mirror Productions’ as it is a very simple name and does not specify any
genre. This meant that my production company title did not to show our film
genre of horror, so was easier to carry out. Although I did not use a mirror to make my production company which would have suited it well, I decided to use two candles side by side which mirrored each other. I liked this idea because it was unique and the use of candle light can be effective for all genres.
To do this, I used basic equipment of two candles, white
cardboard and a camera.
I lit the two candles as I thought their flickering light
would be effective, and I placed them in front of the white cardboard which I
used as a backdrop to keep it professional looking.
This shows my production company in the process of being
made:
This is my final product:
What went well?
I think the idea of using candles was a good idea as they create
a unique and atmospheric effect. I also think my editing on the computer went
well as I successfully combined the filming of the candles and the title to
work well together using editing effects.
What I would improve:
I think I would use the candles more effectively and use
their light to create shadows. I could have focused more on the flickering fire
and used this to my advantage, especially against the white cardboard
background. This would be a lot more atmospheric and also look a lot more
professional which I think it definitely needs to be.
Here is a video of the Blumhouse productions professional company logo and the trailer it has at the beginning of every film that it is used for.
Blumhouse productions is an American Horror movie production company, founded in 2010 by Jason Blum. Blumhouse produces micro and low budget horror movies. Blumhouse produced the Academy Award with a nominated drama film Whiplash for which Jason Blum was nominated the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The genres that Blumhouse produce for are usually horror movies and thriller movies however Blumhouse productions has also produced a few comedy films and also a few drama films. Some of the films that are famous by Blumhouse or have been recently produced by Blumhouse are:
Paranormal Activity films - Horror
Sinister 1 and Sinister 2 - Horror
Insidious
The Purge - Horror
The Boy Next Door - Thriller
The Gift - Thriller
Not Safe for Work - Thriller
The ToothFairy
Best Night Ever - Comedy
The Babymakers - Comedy
Whiplash - Drama
I think that the Blumhouse production company logo is very effective because of the way at the beginning before the logo comes up there is a girl and we have no idea why she is there and it creates the idea of a horror or thriller film that is about to come so this makes it effective for the genre. I also think the way that the chair fly's around before the writing 'Blumhouse' is introduced is creepy and is something that would be seen in a horror film and by using this as part of the logo for the production company it creates the creepy, eerie effect. The
School production company deconstruction:
This is the school production company logo that I chose to analyse. This is the logo before the film opening begins:
The film production company logo looks like this:
I think this school made production company logo is very effective. It is effective because of the name used which is 'Shadowless Studios' and the logo and background that are used because of the name used and the fact there is no shadow shown at all in the production company opening sequence. It is also very effective because of how professional it looks the name that they chose sound professional and the logo that they designed is well designed and looks professional.
Although the logo is basic it creates more tension before the film starts because the production company that they have designed doesn't give away any signs of what type of genre the film is going to be majorly, however it does signify it wont be used on a rom - com or films like that but it doesn't specify completely what type of genre this production company would be used for.
The background that they chose is effective because its basic it doesn't draw the viewers attention to that and it keeps the focus on the logo and this is effective because the logo is different so viewers will spend time looking at that.
I think that this school production was made by the making the logo that is in the middle by drawing it onto an editing software on the computer as some kind of design that they made and they did this on a computer so that it would look more professional and not like it has been drawn free hand, they may have used shapes on a designing software to put it altogether. I think that they made it all using photoshop by adding the logo and then also making the background on another editing software so they could make it so it looked scratched. I also think that they then made the title by using photoshop to personalise the typography to be the colour that they wanted and the font that they wanted then they put it altogether then they filmed it so it could be used as a production company.
It is an American film production label formed in 1999. The production's name came from a man named William Castle who was a horror filmmaker, so the ambition was for Dark Castle Entertainment to remake his horror films. As it progressed, their own original horror films were created and now there are even different genres made by Dark Castle.
Here is a video of Dark Castle's company logo and opening which appears before its films:
Since Dark Castle Entertainment’s
main genre of film-making is horror, these are some of the most known;
House on Haunted Hill
Gothika
Orphan
The Reaping
Ghost Ship
Additionally, here are some
more films of different genres;
The Loft – Thriller
Journey to the Centre of the
Earth – Sci-fi
Ninja Assassin – Thriller
Unknown – Action
Whiteout –Thriller
I think the Dark Castle
Entertainment’s logo is really effective for the genre because it shows a very
creepy looking castle silhouette against a full moon. This is a common theme
within many classical horror films, and shows tension and fear during the night
time. Before this appears though, thunder clap sounds are used to create the
tense and creepy effect of storms. Additionally the lightning bolt that strikes
down enhances this and creates a sense of uncertainty for the viewer.
Furtheremore, the typography
used for the title is sans serif, creating a sharp, edgy effect. It is also in
a bold font and appears to be slightly smudged and blotchy, again creating a
rather chilling feel.
School Made Production
This is a school-made
production logo I analysed:
I think this logo is really
effective because it is quite simple but looks very professional. The letters have
been edited to fly down in chronological order to create the title ‘Ardleigh
Media’ which is probably a play on the students’ names. I thought this was a
really good idea as it is a basic effect but it works in making the opening
look polished.
The design is a white
background, but the added colour makes it look very effective without being too
over the top. The colours behind the letters ‘AM’ seem to gently spiral and
glow which again is a really well-thought through effect and makes it more
interesting.
I like the way it is a very
basic but professional looking design, and it is unclear what to expect next as
it does not give away much, creating anticipation. I think this logo was
probably made through the use of different lighting to create a shiny surfaced
look.
