Location Deconstruction

For my next deconstruction I looked at the location in ‘The Blair Witch Project’ which is a supernatural horror. I chose this film because it is set in a woods, which is the same location setting we are using for our film opening and will give me inspiration and ideas for when we film.

0:16 - The woods is commonly used in slasher and supernatural horrors because it is an isolated location and often difficult to escape. In this shot, what appears to be the low evening light is emerging through the trees and branches which effectively gives the scene enough light, but makes it creepy looking too.

0:48 - This shot shows the cramped and trapped atmosphere and feel to the woods. There is little light in this overgrown area and no clear pathway to escape, creating the idea of isolation.

1:25 - This shot again creates a very creepy atmosphere because this area of the woods is overgrown and crowded in trees. It gives the idea of being trapped or lost, because there is no clear pathway or way out.

2:11 - This opening in the woods is effective for filming something specific, because more details of the character or scene can be viewed. In our opening scene, using an opening in the woods would be ideal for filming the dead body, because it can be seen clearly.
